Kentukis — cute plush animals on wheels with camera eyes — sweep the globe as the must-have gadget. Each one connects two strangers at random: a "keeper" who owns the pet and an anonymous "dweller" who watches the world through it. Samanta Schweblin turns the premise into an unsettling novel about voyeurism, loneliness, and the strange intimacy of being watched. Translated by Megan McDowell and longlisted for the 2020 International Booker Prize.

I really liked thinking about dwellers and keepers. I feel like we live a society where everyone is a keeper due to the internet of things - my wife and I had to buy a new tower fan because our 10 year old one finally quit working and we couldn't find a single one that didn't connect to the internet! Made me wish I got into small engine repair instead of HR... I also feel like the dwellers in our homes are more algorithmic based and it seems so quaint to read about creepy voyeurs, malicious individuals, or just lonely people living vicariously as opposed to tech giants trying to glean and use data to manipulate us.

This was too crazy to be honest. I read it when Anthony had recommended it on his podcast.
